Tony Frazier is a home designer with a passion for timeless architecture.
But what is timeless architecture. That is a question that we asked Tony, and then spent quite a bit of time discussing.
In Tony’s words, timeless architecture means that the design is true to form and style.
Tony’s key to success early on was returning every phone call, and doing exactly what he said he was going to do.
Something he wishes he would’ve known and understood early on was that it’s ok to say, “no.” And that you should never undercut yourself. Don’t do it for less.
Tony gave some great tips to any builder who is working with an architect:
- Find a designer who is doing something different.
- Look for a way to make a name.
- Make sure the architect cares about what they are doing.
- Make sure they communicate and email you back.
For technology Tony likes:
- Sketchup for 3D
- Revit
- Procreate on an iPad.
Tony recommends that as a designer you should:
- Charge based on square footage.
- Charge a deposit to get started.
Some great books on design that Tony recommends are:
- Field Guide To America Homes
- Traditional Structural Patterns
The best advice Tony ever received was to: Hire people better than you.
Tony encourages entrepreneurs to:
- Never plane out.
- Constantly change.
Constantly get better.
To the new contractor just starting out Tony says to:
Word as hard as you can. And try to work harder than those around you. Return your emails. Do what you say you will do. Get the best people around you that you can. Surround yourself with the best.
This was an awesome conversation! Listen all the way through and be inspired!

The book we recommend today is called DELIVERING HAPPINESS by Tony Hsieh… The hip, iconoclastic CEO of Zappos shows how a different kind of corporate culture can make a huge difference in achieving remarkable results — by actually creating a company culture that values happiness –and then delivers on it.
