Mike Grainger from Tink Construction Services in New Jersey specializes in bringing homes back to life. As a child, seeing his father grow and scale his contracting business would give him the inspiration to establish his own contracting business in 2009. In this episode, he shares advice on how to properly setup and structure a contracting business to scale.
He shared lots of great advice during this conversation. He talked about how no one gets a break, and no one gets a deal.
He also talked about how important it is that you never break the ethics and values of your business.
Mike said that puts his clients and his quality in the same category. Be patient on the money aspect. If you put your client first, it will come back 10-fold!
Failure is a major part of your success. Failure correlates with experience. Gain that experience. Go forward toward your vision.
A Dream + A Goal + A Date = A Plan.
Have a plan. Work it. Move towards your dreams. But realize that when you fail, it doesn’t make you a failure, but rather it gives you experience.
Use that experience to continue pushing towards your goals.
PMA = Positive Mental Attitude.
Remove yourself from the situation. Take 2 steps back and try to analyze the situation from a different view point. This will help you keep a positive mental attitude.
Try to do sales and estimates on the same day every week.
Set your “do not disturb” button on your phone. Get it done.
We have a policy that no decisions are made in the field. Document all the details, and then let the decision be made back in the office with the correct paperwork and people involved.
If you are looking for referrals, remember this… Referrals come back to how a job ends, not how it began. Be sure that you are ending your jobs on as good a note or better than when you started.
This was an awesome conversation! Listen all the way through and be inspired!
